Essex Health and Wellbeing Strategy cover pageThe Essex Health and Wellbeing Strategy is an important document that brings together many agencies across the county to agree a range of topics on which joint working is required - to improve health in the county. The strategy is on the Essex County Council website at this link.

There are supporting notes and action points from the 18 July meeting where it was adopted also on the ECC website.

Essex CC endorsed the strategy at its meeting on 9th October, but the Lib Dems spokesperson on Health, Cllr. Stephen Robinson, said that it is only warm words unless resources are attached. However, the Conservatives rejected a Lib Dem amendment that called on the council to lobby Government for the staff and and money that will be required to deliver it.

Said Cllr Robinson, "The cross-party Local Government Association says that Children and Adult social care budgets will be short by over £6 billion in seven years time. The Government needs to wake up to the crisis in care services.

The NHS needs to work with council care services to address the crisis. But it is not just about cash. Unless large numbers of new staff are trained up, it will be impossible to provide all the services we need, and that can only get worse if we leave the EU and fewer people come here to work."
